SLS/Information Literacy ASSIGNMENT 1

Now that you have the basic information about information literacy, how can you use information literacy in school and your personal life? For example, could you use what you are learning about information literacy to write a paper or buy a car or cell phone? Think about how you plan to use information literacy in your life.

To help you get started, write a brief reflective paper detailing your ideas about using information literacy for school or in your personal life.

Now you may ask, what is a reflective paper and how do I write one? A reflective paper is a type of essay in which you give your thoughts and reactions to a topic, in this case, information literacy. A reflective paper usually has three paragraphs: the opening paragraph, the main information, and a concluding paragraph. Below are instructions for a short reflective paper.

Follow the steps below to complete your short reflective paper.

1. Read the material about information literacy and listen to “ISAEC the Librarian” explain information literacy.

2. Complete the Assignment 1 Reflective Paper Worksheet to help you organize your thoughts.

3. Write the title for your paper

4. In the opening paragraph you introduce your ideas about what information literacy is and how you plan to use it to draw your reader into your paper. Use the information from Reflective Paper Outline items 1 and 2 to write your first paragraph.

5. The second paragraph of a reflective paper contains the main information. Use the information that you wrote in Reflective Paper Outline items 3, 4, and 5 to create this paragraph.
