The Six Pillars of Society “Planet of the Apes”

Societies in the 21st century are brought up upon pillars. There are a total of six; religion, ideology, humanism, individualism, secularism, and skepticism. Theses pillars are what our society is made out of. In the film, “Planet of the Apes”, it is 3978 AD, the pillars that were used in our century are still being used in the future.

From the beginning of civilizations, Religion has been a major pillar in many societies. “Planet of the Apes”, has shown us that religion is a pillar that people will never be without. Reason for it, helps people believe in something and look forward to in the morning when waking up. But religion can looked down upon when dealing with certain people, and certain eras. Doctors in the film had gone against religion and not cared, to be precise, Cornelius. He had believed that man came before ape. Dr. Zayus knew that for a fact but did not want to hear it, and threatens Cornelius. Religion as you see was very sacred. The apes’ religion was very similar to what we know as christianity. They look up to their deity, worship, believe in heaven and as well have a statue, of their deity to inquire everything that he had done for them. Religion, even during the times of the apes, was a very sacred thing to them and defining it was frown upon. The Religion pillar is a major one, as you see, dealing with many consequences if defying it.

Ideology is a pillar in the film that had shown up quite sometimes. Ideology can be defined as a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy. An example of this in the film when the topic of evolution had occurred. Evolution, even in this day an age, is a controversy that will never be settled with. Many people are on the idea of evolution, which deals with apes that have evolved by man and the religion way, which is that the great deity ape had created all apes equally before man. In the film, Cornelius had brought up the ideology of ape deriving from man, and Dr. Zaius had threaten his thesis, even though Dr. Zaius knew it was true. Laws, in the era of apes, were very prejudice towards non-apes. When in court, Taylor had no rights what so ever. The courts looked him down upon and looked at him like he was nothing. Apes and Chimpanzees were looked different upon. From what was being shown, the chimpanzees were on a hierarchy then the apes. It can be said that the apes were on the lower class of the chimpanzees and weren’t substantial to certain laws like the chimpanzees. Ideology you’d think would have been very different to what it is in now in our time. But as you see it hasn’t nor will it change. Many of the things that had occurred in the film are similar to things in this day and age, and stated won’t change.

Third pillar that was shown was Humanism. In the film, doctors Zera and Cornelius
