Academic Integrity Assignment

Academic integrity has been an issue for many years. This issue seems to be rising one that is evolving with the technology of the 21st century. There are even some cases of teachers cheating to help boost their student’s tests grades. Today’s students have a conception that cheating is an act that everyone participates in and that it is somewhat socially acceptable. This generation also tends to give in easy and take the easy route when a task gets more difficult than they would like. The technology available with smartphones and the internet always one click away aids this mindset of doing what is easiest without considering the issue of academic integrity.

This growth in technology is also leading to the growth in distance learning. Online classes give students an easier method of cheating and breaking academic integrity because there are no teachers present when the students complete their work. This makes it easy for these students to not even think about the issue that they are facing. This is an area that education providers need to focus on and figure out some methods that will decrease this ease of cheating online.

In fixing this issue, teachers need to make more of an effort to make sure that the students know exactly what academic integrity and dishonesty all entails. Teachers themselves need to exemplify high academic standards. Universities need to push for higher academic achievement and higher standards for all students. Another way that could help is to reduce workload. Some students tend to cheat when they feel overwhelmed and feel overbooked.
