YOUR TASK:

Students are required to compile a report for an existing company’s approach to strategy at business and corporate level. For the report, students should select a company and evaluate its current strategy toward businesses and industries and finally develop recommendations for the future. Each group will present to the tutorial as a whole. The group work will enable students to apply the concepts they have learned in the course and generate ideas to demonstrate analytical and creative thinking. Furthermore, it will encourage debate and discussion between group members, and across the tutorial group as a whole. In addition to an evaluation of students’ analytical and critical appraisal abilities, this assignment will develop and test group working and presentation skills.

Specifically, the objectives of the assignment are to:

1. State and describe the core aspects of the company’s existing strategy.

2. Analyze and evaluate the below items such as company’s current position and its opportunities for improvement. This means that they are expected to apply market analysis tools (e.g. SWOT, PEST, etc.) using market and company information (e.g. annual reports). The items to be analyzed are :

• Core Business

• Market/Industry Group

• Competitors

• Target market

• Strengths/Weaknesses

• Reasons for success/failure

3. Develop and propose a coherent strategic plan, based on their practical understanding of the company’s flaws on strategy, and their theoretical review of relevant frameworks/concepts. This will help them to focus their report to specific issues and apply the theories they
