Concerning the details provided by you, I analyzed the possible courses of action based on various criteria. In addition, I have also given a recommendation and a plan of action to implement the same.

As the focus is on meeting the forecasted demand of 3000 Country Pitchers (CP) while shifting your time from CP production line to production and marketing of higher margin items, it is recommended that ECW should purchase Decal equipment and train an additional worker to replace you in the CP production line.


Executive Summary

ECW wants to increase the CP production rate to match the forecasted demand and also, wants to focus its attention to other higher margin items. The options are: Purchase decal equipment, outsource a part or all of the CP production. These options are evaluated on the criteria of the quality of the product, high return on investment, flexibility in the production and design, and familiarity with the equipment. After evaluating these options based on the above criteria, it is recommended that ECW purchases the decal equipment and hire an additional worker.

Situation Analysis

Elizabeth Hine’s “Elizabeth’s Country Wares (ECW)” deals in decorative country housewares and ceramic pottery business. Although ceramic pieces of equal/better functionality and lower price are easily available in the market, product differentiation has helped ECW’s products appeal to its customers. The firm’s products, mainly targeted at middle to upper-income households, have a country theme out of which, 3 “burst” themes are very successful: the “appleburst”, the “heartburst” and “the heart sideburst”. Also, the flexibility in designs and a wide array of choices has helped ECW to cater to the ever-changing consumer preferences.
