Would you like to receive some money from the IRS? I would. I read an article called $2 billion dollars for the asking. The title alone was enough to catch my eye! I was curious about what I would have to do to receive some of the money. As I began reading, I learned that this $2 billion is owed to some Americans for not filling their 2002 income taxes. I knew then, that would rule me out of benefiting from the money. Now, in order to reap the benefits, the article states, “those folk must file their 2002 returns by this year's filing deadline, April 17. If they do not do so by that time, then any refund can only be applied against taxes owed in the future.” I feel like this, If they have not done it yet, they probably are not going to, especially if they have to “do something” in order to receive the money.

In my opinion, there are many reasons why people do not file their taxes, but I will only mention a few. I used to be in that category, so this article hit home for me. I feel that some people do not bother to file their income taxes because they do not think they will not get much back from the IRS, so they may feel that it is not worth it. Between things like child support and the like, some may feel that the IRS would take the money anyway or that it will go to another source. Another reason I feel people may not file their income taxes is because a lot of their income is in the form of cash transactions. Some people are just plain irresponsible and most likely don’t have the documents necessary to file their 2002 income taxes.

I believe that some people want to do things, but if there is work involved, it lessens the chances that they get it accomplished. This is especially true if people do not see the benefit of things--how it benefits them and in what ways.
