INTO THE WORLD: English Trial Essay New Draft

Question: “The response of individuals to new experiences always has consequences”.

“The response of individuals to new experiences always has consequences”. “Moving into the world” can be defined as a person’s venture of growing up and maturing to finally enter the real world. “The attitude of people as they go through the ups and downs of moving into the world has its different consequences.” This statement proves to be true through the Prose Fiction novel, “The Story of Tom Brennan”, by JC Burke, the film “Juno” by director Jason Reitman, and the media article “Raw Exposure, An Epiphany in Paradise”.

In the prose fiction novel, “The Story of Tom Brennan”, the character of Tom Brennan is moving into the world, but having difficulty much like his family, due to an accident involving his brother Daniel. This is shown through the metaphor, “The town of Mumbilli is bleeding”. This metaphor expresses how the town feels in a physical way and in a sense it personifies the town. The reactions of the town, and of Tom and his family because of the accident involving Daniel, act as a barrier for Tom and his family from successfully moving into the world. In this sense, Tom and his family suffers the consequences of having a longer and harder venture into the world. Thus, proving the statement, “The attitude of people as they go through the ups and downs of moving into the world, has its different types of consequences,” true.

In the beginning of the prose fiction novel, “The Story of Tom Brennan” by JC Burke, Tom, after moving to his grandma’s house, calls his new room ‘the cave’. The title represents Tom’s feeling of alienation through symbolism. After Tom meets a girl called ‘Chrissy’, he takes her to a place him and his uncle call ‘The Secret Pool’ or “The Waterhole”. This represents a positive as to Tom’s successful entry into the world as he spends time with Chrissy there and Chrissy acts as his support. This technique is very effective as we see Tom’s transition into the world become successful. However, as a consequence of Tom’s ‘the cave’, Tom’s transition into the world makes his venture into the world prolonged. This thus proves the statement, “The attitude of people as they go through the ups and downs of moving into the world has its different types of consequences” true.

In the prose fiction novel, “The Story of Tom Brennan”, the setting changes in as Tom moves into the world. The setting changing from the ‘bleeding’ Mumbilli to Coghill represents the tragedy of what happened, being the accident, and how changing towns was a chance to start over and have a new beginning. This change of towns makes the family and Tom’s process to move on an easier progression. This technique proves to be very effective
