Geography affects the way we live in a number of aspects. Some aspects are mountains, rivers, sea coast, plains and valleys. It affects how people adapt in their lands to survive. It effects the type of goods people of a civilization trade with other civilizations. It may also affects the conditions people have to live under in that area. It affects the world. Three geographic features that have had an important effect on certain civilizations are rivers, mountains, and oceans/seas.

A river is where a large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea. A place that could an example where civilization was affected was the Nile River Valley Civilization was affected. The Nile would flood each year in July and lasting until November. It was both beneficial and problematic. It was beneficial because when it flooded the water left silt in the soil. This made it easy to plant the crops after the 6 month flood. It was problematic because if they had crops they would be destroyed because of the water and there would be a shortage in food. They then created irrigation so that they had fresh water. They also had large boats for transportation and trade.

Mountains can be both beneficial and problematic at the same time. An example would be the Himalayas. A civilization that lived in the Himalayas were the Indic. The Indic were brought over by the Hindu India. There were some benefits of living in the Himalayas was the fact they were isolated if there were to be an invasion they would be protected. It was problematic because they were socially isolated and it minimized contact with neighboring regions. Also because they were isolated they were slower in developing in technology. Finding food wasn't a problem because they were able to hunt, fish, and would gather any wild food they could find. Farmers made money by selling crops such as barley, ginger, cotton, jute, and tea.
