As I walk outside with my cup of coffee in one hand and my new book in the other I flap the book up and down in the air attempting to wave at the new neighbor that just moved in across the street. Her name is Sarah. Her job recently transferred her here a few months ago from Texas. She waves back as she rushes to put her three kids into the minivan to take them to school and then make her way to work. I settled down into the comfy black wicker chair accented with forest green pillows and place my cup of coffee on the matching table. The table and chair was located in the corner of my wood porch. This has become my little oasis and from here I can see every house on the block. I sit back in my chair and exhale as every part of my body begins to relax and take in the morning air. Before I open my book I notice her husband Jim pulling up. I learned from her yesterday that he works nights while she works days. She explained that their schedules are hectic and they hardly get time to see each other.

Jim gets out of his black A6 Audi grabs his briefcase from the back seat and closes the car door. I notice him bobbing his head and spinning around dancing as he walks to the couch. He sits his plate down on the living room table, flops down on the couch, and picks up the remote. He starts eating his food while watching TV. I continue to read. As I was flipping the page I heard the sound of a car coming down the street. I glimpsed up and noticed a car pulling into the Sarah and Jim’s driveway. It’s a blue Mazda CX9. A tall thin woman with long brown hair jumps out. She has on black pumps and a stylish black peplum dress. Her necklace and ring sparkles as the sun reflects off the stones. She sashays her way to the door and rings the bell. I see Jim get up, turn off the TV then slowly open the door. She leans in hugs him then walks past him and enters the house as if she lives there.

I watch the two of them sit down on the couch. She sits directly in the middle and Jim sits down right beside her. As they talk she throws her head back with laughter like what he’s saying is the funniest thing she has ever heard. I notice the woman gets a little more comfortable. She starts by kicking off her shoes then follows up by putting her feet in Jim’s lap. At this point I am more interested in what’s happening across the street then I am
