                                     HIPPA

The HIPAA privacy and security rules require formal education and training of the workforce to ensure ongoing accountability for privacy and security of protected health information. Documentation of training should be maintained in order to prove later on that training actually occurred. (Barten, 2015) HIPPA training is also to ensure that every person who is trained does not forget HIPPA rules. The primary reason HIPPA was enacted was to protect the confidentiality, privacy, and security of a patient’s health information.  It assigns identifiers to insurers and providers, guarantees secured transactions and provide patient’s access to their medical records. (McConnell, 2011)  A healthcare manager can be  proactive in protecting PHI by ensuring all staff has been trained properly on HIPPA compliance laws. Each employee must have a private password that should not be shared with anyone. There should be consequences implemented for any employee who violates or compromises any PHI.

In my opinion a patient has the right to be involved and make decisions regarding their healthcare. Morally, a physician’s duty is to provide a patient with the best care possible and advise them of all medical options in regards to their healthcare. In legal terms a physician also must ensure that a patient is receiving all treatments that would be in their best interest or that would save their lives. If a person is not competent to make such decisions, a physician has a right to advise the courts.

The Patient’s Bill Of Rights provides assurance for individuals receiving medical care. The major objective of the patient’s bill of rights is to: help patients feel more confident in the US healthcare system, assures that the healthcare system is fair and it works to meet patients' needs. It gives patients a way to address any problems they may have, encourages patients to take an active role in staying or getting healthy. To stress the importance of a strong relationship between patients and their health care providers. Lastly, to ensure patients play a key role in staying healthy by laying out rights and responsibilities for all patients and health care providers.
