I found these readings to be very interesting and very insightful. In the reading “Honor Your Father and Your Mother”, the question about God was raised “Where did this Image come from?” It was stated that these images were drawn up mainly from scripture, sacramental practices, and also from people’s spirituality. In society today, God was always portrayed as a white male who is old with a gray beard. Therefore, people who believe that there is a God usually would have this image.

In the reading “Images of God: Breaking Boundaries”, there is a dialogue used from the movie “The Color Purple”. In this dialogue, the question was raised “What do you expect God to look like, Mr. ___?” In this story, “Mr. ___” is a man that abused and raped the narrator (Celie). Although the question was a joke, It wouldn’t be a surprised for one to think that someone who has power over another person, who gets abused and raped continuously, to be seen as “God”. My point is, one’s image of God comes strictly from within that person and is affected by every experience that a person may go through.

However, I feel that the image of God comes from within one’s own self and what he/she believes. God is a higher power in which whom people have a spiritual belief in. Therefore, no one has ever seen God before. Also, nobody knows exactly what God looks like. In the bible, I read that if one were to ever see God, he/she would not be able to live to talk about. The only way one will ever see God is in the afterlife. Therefore, the image of God that people have comes from the images that have been depicted by society and what society has believed God to look like over the years. Personally, I believe that God is just a giant welcoming being that has his arms out. This is what my image of God is.
