1. Case Backround and Problem Statement
a) The case discusses if Nintendo, after the release of the Wii U, has the capability to take over the gaming market and beat their rival competitors. These competitors include Sony and Microsoft and the case compares and contrasts both of these companies with Nintendo throughout the case. The case discusses the advantages and disadvantages that Nintendo has in the gaming market and also where Nintendo excels as well as where it needs work.
b) There have been some issues facing Nintendo in the gaming market since the release of the Wii U. These issues include the rising competition among their competitors in the gaming industry, Nintendo’s graphics not being quite as good as those of their competitors, lack of compatibility, and the limit on the number of games. While there are issues, there are also opportunities. Since Nintendo is really only in the gaming market, they still have the opportunity to diversify like their competitors, Sony and Microsoft. They are also known for having easy-to-use technology, which gives them the opportunity of making their product a “family-favorite.”
