Process of Photosynthesis

The process of photosynthesis is a complex set of events that takes place within plants. Photosynthesis is a process where a plant takes outside sources, and turns them into energy to help it grow and prosper.

The equation for photosynthesis and the reactants

The equation for photosynthesis is: 6CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) + 6H2O (Water) LIGHT C6H12O6 (Sugar) + 6O2 (Oxygen). The reactants for photosynthesis are water and carbon dioxide. Water comes from the moisture of the air surrounding the plant, including rain, or from moist soil. Water is absorbed through the leaves or the roots of a plant. Water is an important product for all living things. Without water, plants would not be able to grow into a plentiful food source that most living things depend on for a food source. Carbon dioxide comes from the air around the plant. Carbon dioxide is absorbed by the plant, and is mixed with water and sunlight to create glucose that gives the plant energy. Like water, carbon dioxide is also an important product for living things. Carbon dioxide breathes life into plants, which in turn, gives living things oxygen to breathe by converting carbon dioxide into oxygen during photosynthesis.

What is an absorption spectra?

An absorption spectra is the colors of light that the cells of a plant absorb. A green leaf looks green because of what color light is reflected off of it. If a leaf looks green, it is because the leaf absorbs all of the colors of the spectra except the color green, making the leaf appear to look green. The same would be true of a plant with red leaves. If a plant has red leaves, then this means that the plant absorbs all the colors of the spectra except the color red, thus the leaves of the plant will appear red.

The main energy-carrying molecule in the process of photosynthesis

The main energy-carrying molecule in the process of photosynthesis is the glucose molecule. The glucose molecule provides the plant, and all of its parts, with the energy it needs to photosynthesize. Glucose molecules that are produced by the chloroplast will be released out into the cytoplasm of a plant cell and be used as energy for the plant. Glucose may also be sent to the roots of the plant to be stored in the form of starch.
