Taste Test

In this study, four stations, each containing three cups of unknown substances, were taste-tested by students. Results of the tests were documented at each station. The results are outlined below.

Summary of Results

At Station 1, the majority of students experienced a sweet taste in Cup A, a salty taste in Cup B, and a sour taste in Cup C. At Station 2, the majority of students experienced a salty taste in Cup A, but the students were divided for Cup B, where the majority experienced either sour or bitter. Most students experienced a bitter taste for Cup C. At Station 3, the majority of students did not taste anything in Cup A, although some experienced a bitter or sour taste. Students were split for Cup B, where they either tasted nothing or indicated the substance had a bitter taste. Almost all students indicated there was not taste for the substance in Cup C. At Station 4, most students indicated they experienced no taste for Cup A. Students were split for Cup B, where almost half experienced a sweet taste, and most of the others tasted nothing. For Cup C, the majority of students experienced a salty taste.

Two-Point Touch Threshold Test

In this test, students chose a partner with whom they would test cutaneous receptor sensitivity. Each took turns closing their eyes, while the other applied an instrument with two fine points on predetermined parts of the body. The distance it took to feel the two points as one was documented. The class results are displayed on the next page.
