An increasing percentage of social segregation of gated communities in housing complexes disrupts the members who live in these areas substantially. The fences enclose the entire complex, leaving pedestrians and vehicles with only one way to come and go. In addition, going into and out of the complex is extremely strenuous for 1,100 tenants because there is only one accessible gate. This becomes a huge inconvenience to those who catch the bus, because the gate and the bus stop are on two opposite ends of the entire complex.

These ten-foot tall fences are inefficient. Before all of this, the housing community had eight accessible gates. Prior to the newly built fences, there was a gate near my building, which made it really convenient to get to. Now I have to walk from one end of the complex to the other, and back around to get to the bus stop. Over the ten-foot gate, that is outside my house, I can see the bus stop I have to go to. If I could jump the fence I would, but because they locked the gate that was accessible, I have no choice but to walk around the entire complex. I zigzag between other buildings, going through obstacles of toys, broken pieces of furniture, and cat feces. I clench onto my bag and look straight ahead as my heart pounds from the hurried pace of my walking. Immediately, my eyes scan for a small security guard house because it is a sign that I have reached the end of the complex. As I vigorously walk to the bus stop, I see the same view I saw from my building, but from the point of being outside of the gates. Eventually, I reach my destination just in time of arrival, or I would completely miss the bus. Initially there was a gate near my complex that allowed me to get to the bus stop in only three minutes; now it takes me at least fifteen minutes. Furthermore, the fence promote a negative image to those who live in the complex, there are individuals who jump these gates because the lack of desire to walk around the entire area to reach
