Your paper will be graded on how well you address the following points:

  1. Three things that you learned on the tour that you didn’t know before

  2. The single most important thing that you learned and explain why it was so profound

  3. How you can apply the experience of this plant visit to the study of Operations and Supply Chain

Ford Rouge Plant Trip Report

  1. Three things that you learned on the tour that you didn’t know before:

Well I have learned a lot on this trip because this was the first time I visit a truck manufacturing facility and it was really fabulous when I left the plant I have learned and realized too many points and below some of them:

  1. History, this trip had a very important impression on me, cause when I went to the visitor center to get the ticket I enjoyed the center design and the museum engineering monuments, and when we went to the plant they had an auto show where they kept all the car models since they invented the mustang 1956 until the very modern of the mustang, the cars were like artifacts.

  2. Discipline, as soon as you get off the bus at the plant entrance you can realize how organized is the procedure some people will welcome you and give some guidelines about the plant then when you go inside you will follow the signs and

symbols they will guide you thru the plant until you get to the final stage of manufacturing.

  1. Safety, inside the plant and when you walk thru the DECHS of the process stages like ( glass dech ) you see some of the safety rules that give a direction about what you must do before you start working, and there are a lot of safety devices next to every manufacturing stage that gives you an alert if something wrong happened.

  1. The single most important thing that you learned and explain why it was so profound:

  1. The most important thing was ( the flexible manufacturing ) I was amused when ( henry, “ senior inspector “) told that they are able to build a different kind of ( F 150 ) truck at the same time and on the same production line, and actually I have seen that in my eyes, the basic F 150 on the same conveyor and the F 150 2017 that has a sunroof on the same conveyor so it was something fabulous especially when you see such ability of production, and the second thing was the ( Robotic Inspection ), they have robotic inspection system the robot will do all the inspection of the truck in case something wrong or not set in the right way, and that save money and time to the company because such as system will give a high accuracy of outputs in short time.

  1. How you can apply the experience of this plant visit to the study of Operations and Supply Chain:

the production line, the production line was like ( U ) shape method, whereas I thought that all automotive manufacturing use deferent kind of production line, well

in such as case I understand that the U production line is really sufficient method because it saves space and provides the ability to have enough room to maintain

enough supplies for the production especially the small parts, so in addition to that the supply chain department will be more efficient in making orders and managing

the stock in the best way because the system of production keeps all the production stages visible to the supply chain and all the stock is tagged and maintained in a very

organized way and managed by the system, so that gives the supply chain department an advantage in their performance.

  1. How you can apply the experience of this plant trip to your overall career path:

It is really amazing when you see how organized a huge plant like Rouge plant and you start thinking how they were able to do this and maintain everything at the plant organized and tracked well and the accuracy of the system ( process stages, until the inspection stage ), we have to develop new methods of production like ( Rouge Plant ) that save time and money and reduce the error to the lowest level.
