Cheryl Weiner is a regional manager in the Paramount Home Depot. She has ten different districts operating under her that have their own district managers. Her company provides services in contract that include all the necessary manpower, supplies, as well as interior decorating help in accordance with the terms of contract agreed to by its partners and the corporation itself. The District Manager coordinates all these and is directly responsible for all the activities that occur within the area under his/her control, and Cheryl is in charge of all the transactions that take place in her region.
Cheryl has 16 years of experience in the home depot service business. Previously she worked as the Operating manager of a home depot services in another city. After being hired by Paramount, she reviews the performance of those working under her, she pays them announced/ unannounced visits, holds meeting with them every month to evaluate and compare the progress of all the districts.
Of these managers, Cheryl's particular interest while doing performance appraisal lied with the two district managers in her region, Mr. Brooks- the longest serving employee and a relatively new comer, Elizabeth.
Mr. Brooks is not highly educated but is extremely good at dealing with people. He joined Paramount as a shift supervisor; he's been serving Paramount for more than 12 years. He has been working as the District Manager in his town for the last 3 years. He is an energetic & enthusiastic supervisor and his subordinates are fairly happy to be working for him. He is a talent in interacting with and handling people, both customers & employees alike. All of his initial customers have retained their business relationship with Paramount. Most of the employees recruited, hired & trained by him have gone on to become supervisor of other districts. Mr. Brooks has been different from others, he loves to visit customers personally, and work with his subordinates and help them whenever they need any. But Mr. Brooks has a drinking problem and is a chain smoker, as he aged this started to pose as a serious health threat and it rendered him inactive for 3 months in the past year. He is known for being consciously negligent of his doctor's advice. His behavior towards others has become less appreciable over the past few years, his working style has changed. But all these changes have not yet affected the number of customers he brought in but he is now visibly restless and Cheryl had to deal with him and his problems more than she had to, with all the other managers combined.
