President Truman, I think the only way to win this war is with the Manhattan Project. We have perfected the bomb, and we are ready to launch it. The Japanese will not surrender. They would rather die than dishonor their families. We have seen proof of this with the kamikaze pilots crashing their planes rather than being captured. They would rather take their own lives than live and become imprisoned.
There are three options Mr. President. First is a full-scale military invasion. This would end up with millions of our soldiers dead. It would also be very difficult to transport the troops there. Second would be to leave them alone and/ or blockade them. This has proven to fail in the past. We tried this in Germany after World War I. Germany rose up again and started another world war. This was the result of the League of Nations ignoring that Germany was rebuilding its army. Your third option is the dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombs have been proven effective through tests out in the desert. The scientists have made the most effective way to end the war.
After we drop bombs, Japan will have to surrender knowing the power we have. This is safer than letting millions of our troops die. It is also more effective than ignoring what Japan is doing. This sends a message to the world that we are one of the super powers and not to messed with. Wars will also become less and less frequent with the fear of the atomic bomb and its power.
