Margaret Thatcher

Margaret thatcher was born on October 13, 1925 in Grantham, Lincolnshire. During her high school years, Thatcher was on top of her game. She was the head girl of her class and participated in many extracurricular activities. After High School, She applied to a scholarship for Oxford but then got rejected. Luckily for her one of the candidates withdrew her place and she got into Oxford. During her time at Oxford in 1943, Thatcher majored in Chemistry and her last year she specialized in X-ray Crystallography.

In 1951, Thatcher participated in the safe labor seat of Dartford as a conservative candidate. During that time, She attracted the media due to being the youngest and only woman in the race. Although she had the media on her she lost the run twice to Norman Dodds. In 1955, Thatcher couldn’t run for the general elections due to the birth of her twin kids, marc and carol. In April 1958, she was elected as candidate of Finchley. After being elected, her maiden speech was made in support of her private members bill. Margaret Thatcher played a big role in the education part. When she was chosen for secretary of state for education and science. Since she majored in Chemistry, she gave a lot of priority for that academy, providing substantial supplies for the schools.

Margaret Thatcher reached her biggest goal when she became Prime Minister in May 1979. When she got elected, she gave this famous speech where this phrase was historic. She said” Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope”. Thatcher was Leader of the Opposition and Prime Minister at a time of increased racial tension in Britain. People did not accept that a woman could be in a position such as prime minister.
