The significant characteristic of Hispanic culture lies on familismo, male-female relationships, and the diverse practices. Familismo refers to faithfulness and unity within immediate and the extended family. The family is at the center of social structure. They are knit- together and in cases, often, have three generations or more living as a member of same household. The members prioritize as responsibility to help others in the family. For example, when financing houses, making large purchases, and on finding jobs, members help each other. Although, they value family as an essence of life, but majority of females in society are limited to domestic work. Males are thought to work hard, protect, make decisions, and provide financially for their family; whereas, role of females include taking care of the family (Galanti&Geri-ann, 2003). Furthermore, the Hispanics exibihit a unique eating habits, value the meaning of gifts and the significance of colors. The basic diet relies on corn or wheat tortillas, along with beans, chili peppers, tomatoes etc.; however they have a wide array of dishes. Alcohol is permitted in both business and social settings. In business, alcohol is most appropriate during lunch or dinner meetings. What make them different are the practices they follow. For example, it is considered polite to keep both the hands visible while eating and to leave some food on plate when finished. Similarly, when food or additional servings are offered to Hispanics, they tend to accept only after it is offered a second or third time. Equally, it is considered polite to bring a gift of flowers or sweets when invited to Mexican families. In business, chocolates are given to secretaries because they believe it brings profit. Nevertheless, one must be careful about flower and its color, as it has significant meaning in their culture.
