Dear Mr Williams,
I am writing to you to apply for the incredible opportunity to be part of The Chase’s first senior house student team beginning next September. This would not be my first experience representing the school, as I have been lucky enough to represent The Chase for a wide variety of sports teams, languages and sciences. I believe I would be a good candidate for a senior house student because I can bring experienced leadership and communication skills to strengthen and support both the faculty and the students.
Firstly, I believe teamwork is one of the key factors in being a senior house leader. Working with others to maintain pupil satisfaction as well as keeping the staff well-supported is one of my main aims as a student house leader. I have endeavoured when previously being part of a team, which I learnt through my participation in the National Citizen Service (NCS). This programme taught my how to work with similar young people to change our community for the better, although we had an adult supervisor, many of our ideas were fuelled by the younger people, with myself taking one of the lead roles in the planning of our social action project, to improve Malvern Cube for younger people to use for relaxation and socialising. I believe this helped me to learn how effective teamwork is carried out through listening, communicating and involving everyone equally, and now attend many parent meetings as a graduate to support the programme and create opportunities to further work within the project to encourage other young people to learn the skills I did in the Summer programme. This means I have personal experience with talking to young people and find it easy to build rapport and respond to their needs.
Next, I’d like to mention the importance, personally, to communication in this role as a senior house student. Due to the modern day relevance of social media, I believe an act of mine as a senior house leader would be to create a Facebook profile for people to speak with if they have any problems which they find too difficult to talk about face to face with a leader. There are risks with running a facebook page for situations such as hacking, yet i believe sharing the profile with only fellow senior house leaders and our head of house would ensure confidentiality; as well as regularly changing the password to ensure safety and privacy. This could be universally beneficial not just for my house, but also for the school as a whole as it could be adopted for the other houses as well.
