The little mermaid, who doesn't know the story of the beautiful red-headed mermaid who wants to become a human? With best friends who are a fish and a lobster, it allows your imagination to run wild thinking of all the things that are going on deep in the ocean. Throughout this Disney film you get to experience Ariel growing from a child into a woman and the challenges she faces through this stage. It explores aspects of growing up such as wanting to venture from home, having the pressure of parental expectations, the formation of relationships and making the right decisions.

Being an animated film the use of colour is extremely important as it is the strongest element which conveys the characters personalities and the mood of the scenes. For characters such as Ariel, Eric, Flounder and Sebastian the colors' are bright and happy such as red, yellow and blue, these show how these people are the positive influences within her life and what make her happy whereas characters such as Ursula are in dull, bleak and somewhat depressing colors' such as blacks and browns, representing this character as a bad influence. By using different colors' it becomes clear what is good within Ariel's life and the use of dull colors representing the bad for example by creating a dark and scary mood for her decision to take Ursula's offer it enables the viewer to notice that this decision is one that will impact her negatively.

Throughout the stage of growing up there any many significant moments which have an impact on further decisions, these significant moments are noted within the film through the use of song, moments such as deciding to take Ursula's offer, and trying to get Eric to kiss Ariel, are made to seem more enticing by incorporating a musical theme.

Within the film there are personalities of many characters that are expressed, those of both a positive and negative nature which have an impact on Ariel's life. For
