Finding Brittany: A Crime Story

Introduction

The following are notes in the case of Brittany Evans, a teen who was abducted from her home two days ago and is still missing. The notes have been composed in chronological order by a crime scene investigator. These facts include no opinions, analyses, or conclusions—they are merely documentation, which can be used to reconstruct the scene or the chain of events of the incident.

At 10:30 p.m., police responded to an emergency call from 135 Green Lake Drive in the St. Louis, Missouri, suburb of Ladue. The caller did not identify herself or finish the call. Dispatchers traced the call from an open cell phone to this address.

When officers arrived, there was no one on the premises. Upon preliminary inspection, the house showed signs of breaking and entering. When officers entered the house, they saw signs of intruders and blood. They called the forensic unit. At 11 p.m., Dr. William Evans, and his wife, Barbara, arrived at the address. They said that their  daughter, Brittany, 16, had been in the house. The parents had been at a play while Brittany stayed home. She was missing. Brittany is 5’3”, weighs about 110 lb, and has long, blond hair and blue eyes. The parents provided a photo of the girl and police issued an Amber alert.
