Gaudi was not only a great architect; he was also the greatest figure of the Art Nouveau movement in Catalonia (which is actually better known as Modernism). He studied architecture and graduated in 1878. During his studies he also attended other classes, like Philosophy Economy and Psychology, because he had the opinion that architectural styles depend on social and political circumstances. Even though he had a bad temper (he said it was the only thing that he was not able to control in his life), he helped the working class and the poor people with their social problems. Another thing that proofs he’s a good man is the fact that when his sister died, he took care for her physic diminished daughter for the rest of his life.
Almost his entire life he spent in Barcelona, where he created the most fabulous things. One of his first masterpieces was the Sagrada Familia. The church is not finished yet. The government could not appreciate his work that time, but there was one person who believed in him, namely Eusebio Güell. For him he created a lot of other buildings and all of them are special in their own way. You have Paulo Güell and not to forget Park Güell. It has the typical mosaic decorations, but it is mostly known for the chair in the shape of a snake which is bending repeatedly through the park. The park stands for the paradise and was meant as a rendezvous place. Another creation of Gaudi that surely needs to be mentioned is Casa Battlo, which is my favorite. Gaudi was asked by the owner, Sir Battlo, to renew or redecorate the old building. He turned the house in one of the most famous buildings in Barcelona. Gaudi reorganized all the spaces in order to obtain more natural light inside the house. On the outside, Gaudi created one of the most impressive façades ever. It is covered by mosaics and if you take a closer look, you can see the shape of a sea monster in it.
As you can see I am fond of Gaudi. I am already dreaming of going back
