Hypothesis: If Newton's third law is taken into observation, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Then, constructing a vehicle with a process of negative directional force applied will have the ability to shift into forward motion. So, in theory, this directional force can be measured and calculated to make the vehicle accurately travel a set distance.
Materials:
1 Foam block
2 wood poles
5 rubber bands
Tinfoil
1 metal hook
Duct tape
4 metal washers
4 cardboard circles
LED Lights
Procedure:
1. Ideas were brainstormed for a Newton Scooter.
2. A drawn diagram of the Newton Scooter was created.
3. Construction materials were gathered up for creation of the Newton Scooter.
4. A balloon powered Newton scooter was created, but the overall weight of the vehicle was too heavy to move forward.
5. A second Newton Scooter diagram and was created. This time, the mechanism was replaced with a rubber band, instead of a balloon.
6. A knife was used to cut a small slanted ramp at the nose of the foam block for less air resistance.
7. The foam block was wrapped around the outside edges with duct tape, leaving the bottom and top surfaces left un-taped.
8. A knife was used to cut out 2 parallel holes on each side of the foam block (the taped sides) for axles.
