- Schutz was a philosopher, psychologist, sociologist and a musicologist
- Born In Viennna in 1899 - he studied law and the social sciences
The common sense world
- The common sense world – this world existed, we believe, before our birth, has its history and is given to us in an organized fashion –
- The common sense world is primarily the scene of our actions and the locus of resistance to action the main port here is that: we act not only within but upon the world
- Alfred argued that within the common sense world our initial purpose is to not interpret our understanding of the world but to look at the effecting of changes within it – he argued that we seek to dominated before we endeavour to comprehend
- Alfred argued that the common sense world is the arena of social action – within it men come into relationship with each other and to come to terms with each other as well as themselves but all of this is taken for granted
- He argued that this means that these structures of daily life are not themseleves recongized or appreciated formally by common sense – rather the common sense sees the world, acts in the world and interprets the world through these implicit typifcations

- To be born into the world means to be born of parents who are unique to us, to be raised by adults who constitute the guiding elements of our segment of experience
