The person I chose was Shoshannah Stern. I chose her because I saw her in one of the shows I watched and really liked that show. So when we had to do a project on a deaf person and I saw her name I thought I would choose her because she was in a show I watched. Also I wanted to learn more about her because she was a great actress.
Her name, Shoshannah Stern, means “lily” in the Hebrew language. She was born into a Jewish and 4th generation deaf family. She was born on July 3rd, 1980 on Walnut Creek, CA. She has been deaf ever since she was born. She went to a school for deaf kids, and then she attended Gallaudet University, the only liberal arts college for the Deaf in the world. She is currently married to Ricky Mitchell, and they have been together for over 3 years. She has also landed many roles in movies and T.V. shows on prime time and more.
Shoshannah Stern accomplished many extraordinary things since she was born. One of those things happens to be that she graduated college from Gallaudet University. That is the only liberal arts school for deaf kids. She has also learned to read lips and be able to carry out full conversations without an interpreter. She also became an actress and had roles in many different T.V. shows and a couple of movies. To name a couple of those Another period, Weeds, Lie to me, The hammer, Sweet nothing in my ear, Jericho, and Adventures of power. Another thing that she accomplished that no one else has is she is the first deaf actress to have two roles on two prime-time shows at the same time. One of them was Jericho. That is the show I first saw her on and I thought she was great.
Throughout all of her amazing life and all the things that she accomplished she has had to of impacted the deaf/hearing impaired community, but how? She is participating in a group to try and end violence against deaf women. She is seeking to end sexual and domestic violence against deaf women
