Soil Conservation
The purpose of this lab is to model the effects of building an eco-lodge on the top of a cliff.
Results
Trial 1
X-axis= Wave Number
Y-axis= Percent of soil lost
Trial 2
X-axis= Wave Number
Y-axis= Percent of soil lost
Trial 3
X-axis= Wave Number
Y-axis= Percent of soil lost
Independent Variable-The wave number
Dependent Variable- Percent of soil lost per wave
Hypothesis- If an eco-lodge is built on the top of a cliff, then the cliff will lose 6 % of its soil every time is it hit by a wave.
Experiment- In this experiment, I built a model of an eco-lodge on the top of a cliff. I also modeled the conditions of wave action. The data was in the form of percent of soil lost per wave. My time frame was 10 waves, because after ten or eleven waves, the model of the cliff started to fall apart on its own.
Discussion of Results- Based on the data from the three trials, the percent of soil lost generally increased with each wave. In trial 1, the average percent of soil lost per wave is 6.5%. The average percent of soil lost per wave in Trial 2 is 6.3%. The average percent of soil lost per wave in Trial 3 is 6.9%. Overall, the average percent of soil lost per wave is 6.56%, supporting my hypothesis that if an eco-lodge is built on the top of a cliff, then the cliff will lose 6 % of its soil every time is it hit by a wave.
Conclusion
In this lab, I modeled the effects of building an eco-lodge on the top of a cliff. I modeled
