What is there to say about Marilyn Monroe? There is plenty to be said in my opinion; however the real question is where to start. A little background on Marilyn before we get too far. Marilyn was born June 01, 1926 and her life was cut short when she passed away August 5, 1962. To the general public knowledge she was Marilyn Monroe, to her parents she was always known as Norma Jeane Mortenson. Marilyn’s life was a roller coaster full of ups and downs good and bad. Even though her life was crazy everyone felt love for her to include myself.
Marilyn had a certain awe about her that was no secret to anyone, and it wasn’t just a look or smile but in the fragrances that she wore. She had a quote that always made me smile she was asked once “What do you wear to bed?” her response was classic Marilyn “Why Chanel #5 of course.” Since that aired everyone assumed that was the signature scent of the star and while it was kept on her dressing table it wasn’t her favorite. Years after her death they found a receipt for a case of twelve bottles of “Floris Rose Geranium eau du toilette”. She ordered a whole case from France under her secretary’s name and had it delivered to her home. The aroma is said to have a gorgeous interplay of rose, geranium, citronella, and cedar wood which could drive a man to his knees.
Marilyn was a mesmerizing woman at a dress size of twelve she was considered a sex symbol of her time despite that current times would deem her to be plus sized. Marilyn had a signature look that was taken from one of her many movies. Imagine a busy New York street bustling with people and while a short haired blonde, with bright sapphire eyes, shimmering ruby lips, and a dress so white that it blinds passerby’s with its brilliance as all of a sudden the subway passes underneath the rushing air blows the beauties dress upward and she rushes to keep it down. That image is the most well-known image of Marilyn to date. There is one set of images more popular and those concern “Playboy Magazine” and her agreement with Mr. Heffner.
During her career she was always depicted as a ditsy blonde or a so called dumb blonde. Despite what she portrayed as she won multiple awards for her comedy roles. Her first award was the “David di Donatello Golden Plate Award (1958)”, which was followed by “Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (1959)”, then came “Golden Globe Henrietta Award for World Film Favorites (1961). Even though being a centerfold is not technically an award just to note the date she was “Playboy Playmate 1953”.
