Brave New World Essay

A perfect society wouldn’t that be great, just imagine a society with no crime, war, hunger or any problems human beings occur. Many have tried but unfortunately all of them have failed. This is how Aldous Huxley the author of brave new world tried to portray The World State, as a dystopia. In a utopian society everybody should be happy and worry about nothing which sounds quite crazy. But in Brave New World it was just the opposite of that. In this society people were forced to not have emotions and not speak their mind. People were given alcohol and poisoning as embryos so they would grow up disabled, and be forced to be part of the lower class. While some embryos were well taken care of and given the best of food so they could grow up to part of the upper class of society, this was used to create peace and equality. But if you think about it it’s the very opposite of equal.

In Brave New World Lenina Crowne is a lady without a lot of feeling that she can’t really share due to rules in the World State. In chapter three of the book Lenina is having a conversation with fanny a fellow co-worker, Lenina tells fanny she is going out with Henry Foster again and that she kind of likes him. Fanny scolds Lenina because in the World stat e “everyone belongs to everyone”. You are not allowed to be in any relationships. So no matter how much Lenina is in love with Henry, he will never be exclusively hers. She also can’t tell him how she feels because it would sound crazy to want to be in a relationship in the World State. Whenever people in the World state feel strongly about something like Lenina did about Henry they would take soma which would take all their feeling away. Being able to express yourself is what makes you human. No one should be able to take away the right for you to express yourself. Not being able to express yourself does not make a perfect world it makes a chaotic one.
