A time when I defied an authority figure was when I played tennis during Middle School. I have never been the best at tennis or sports in general, well other than dance, my friend Kayla was the same way as me. One day we were not in the best mood and neither was our coach. It was a hot day and we had a tennis match after school, which did not help our mood, it made us mad because we didn't want to be there. We had also had an extra long tennis practice that morning and didn't participate as much as we should have. That made our coach furious and he called us aside at practice. He told us that if we didn't show more enthusiasm to be there he would punish us by running the nature trail. We ignored what he said and stormed off. Later that day we were supposed to play our tennis match, which was a doubles match. This mean Kayla and I would play together. We were tired of the coaches' attitude and decided not to show up. The next day we showed up for morning practice, we did the usual... Dressed out, picked up our racquets and headed to the tennis courts. On our way there we ran into the Coach, we were horrified of what he had to say. He gave us this long lecture on how wrong and disloyal it was of us to skip the match and during practice we made up a score because we didn't want to pay the actual game. He also made us run the nature trail everyday during practice instead of playing tennis. Ashamed of what we had done we reflected over the choices we had taken we put our racquets done and quitely ran the nature trail, it seemed like such a long tiring thing to run maybe it was because we were tired. We should've made other choices like telling the coach tennis wasn't for us and asking him if we could change to a different sport. We also should've showed more respect for the coach, that's the only way we should've expected for him to show respect towards us.
