Choose one of the following questions for your semester essay. Read the question carefully before choosing. Make sure that: 1) you understand the terms (e.g., “regime”) used in the question; and 2) your essay presents a clearly stated and well-substantiated argument that responds DIRECTLY to the question you have chosen:
1) Assess the effectiveness of an international environmental regime of your choosing, in relation to its objectives, and explain its level of success or failure using one or more variants of regime theory.
The essay should be no more than 2.000-2,500 words in length, including notes and reference list. It must be typewritten, have font size 12, double-spaced, have adequate margins to enable comments by the marker, and follow conventional academic practice in relation to referencing and include a correctly formatted reference list containing ONLY the sources used in the paper (students may use any recognised academic referencing system but footnotes are preferred over endnotes and in-text referencing).
Criteria & Marking:
Essays will be assessed on the following criteria: presentation, strength, and relevance of argument; organisation and structure, extent and quality of research, analysis of issues, adherence to academic writing conventions, general presentation, grammar, and CLARITY. Do not base essays solely on internet sources; evidence of having used scholarly books and refereed journals to inform your argument is required. Internet and other popular media sources, like all sources, should be a) clearly relevant to your argument; and b) make up no more than approximately twenty percent (20%) of the sources you use.
