A comparative essay is when you compare two or more forms of literature, film, or work of writing to one another. In this essay, you'll see the comparison of Shakespeare's Hamlet and the Disney
movie Lion King.
Shakespeare's Hamlet is one of his most famous and popular plays. Hamlet is about a prince who is struggling with his own sanity and resisting the will to kill his uncle, the man who killed his father for the throne. The Lion King is a movie about about a baby lion, Simba and his transformation from a boy to a man after facing the murder of his family. The Lion King, and Hamlet have similar plots and themes. They share things like the king (King Hamlet & Mufasa) being murdered by their own brothers (Claudius & Scar) and the sons (Hamlet & Simba) urge to avenge their father's death. Also the idea of having power and having the throne is seen throughout both. After the death of the kings, the villains took over the the position of king against everyone's power. Another comparison from Hamlet and the Lion King are neither of the princes favored the new king because of knowing what they have done. Also at the time of their fathers murders, neither prince knew that their uncle had committed the murder. In both the play and movie it took something outside their lives to steer the princes in the right direction in finding the truth.
From both the play and the movie you see similarities in the characters of Simba and Hamlet, Claudius and Scar, Zazu and Polonius, Rosencrantz/Guertzenstein and Timon/Pumba.
