Basically this book gives the reader the general knowledge of a Project Manager and the duties the Project Manager will fulfill in the field. The author says that developing your writing skills should be taken seriously as well as your speaking skills in becoming a project manager. With the success of a project ninety percent is communication (Kim, 2013). Since communication is the key role, then would it not be that speaking skills be the first to come before writing skills? Writing skills and speaking skills go hand in hand. If you can write well you can speak well, as well as if you can speak well you can write well. That is why when you are learning one you are also learning the other. In the course Public Speaking one overcomes the fear of speaking in public. Public Speaking shows one how to become clear, concise, articulate and to be fluent when speaking. Even though the course is over the internet the course exercises involves speaking to groups of people and also exercises your writing skills of punctuation. (University, 2012). With the knowledge of public speaking as a manger, to be successful at project management one key concept is to give feedback immediately (Richman, 2002) Give credit when it is due and not when time has lapsed, do it when it is fresh on the mind and not a week later. Learning management skills it is critical to have the ability to communicate with others on any level so that one can and have a strong effective smooth running team. The Legal Environment of Business is another course for managers at any level. One aspect of the course it teaches key concepts of business ethics. Business Ethics begins with, is it Legal, moral or does it balance out; would this be fair for all involved. Then Corporate social responsibility (CSR), the corporate responsibility socially is usually is handled by the corporations managers that are appointed by the owners and such. They are accountable to society and they are responsible to keep the peace sort of speak. They maintain a line between what is ethical and what is legal. They do blend the two together and with that said the corporation social responsibility rides in the hands of their managers to keep the business out of court, may it be civil or criminal. (Jennings, 2013) A Project Manager is the liaison between the corporate and construction. That is where the legal environment is critical in business. My experience as an electrician gives me the knowledge, but learning management skills through my courses at JIU will give me the tools I need to succeed. With the decision made to study and gain a degree in business the main courses and my sources will excel my future career forward to a path of security and retirement.
