MAJOR PROJECT: Argumentative Research Essay : write and document an argumentative research essay of 2000 words on one of the four topics given below (your choice of A–D and no other topic allowed). You must utilize the Modern Language Association (MLA) style of documentation to support your research. Your research paper must have a minimum of 8 research sources documented from a combination of both print and electronic sources. Citations provided by electronic cut/paste citation services are NOT ALLOWED! They are often in-correct and will drive down your final score.

Our Embedded Librarian will assist you in locating research sources as you work through the five Embedded Librarian lessons indicated above; all are directly related to progress with your research paper.

As your major writing assignment for the course, this assignment will test your ability to write a grammatically correct, polished academic research essay with the MLA style of research documentation applied correctly. The rubric attached as the last page of this syllabus will show you the standards by which your essay will be evaluated. Be sure to refer to both the rubric and the Research Essay Guidelines (Week 4 folder) as you develop this assignment. The Argumentative Research Essay is DUE on July 22, and the REVISED SUBMISSION is DUE on July 26. Because the Argumentative Research Essay is your major assignment and will take you several weeks to complete, you must begin work on this assignment no later than Week 2, and the sooner the better. You will be required to report your choice of topic to me at that time, so begin giving consideration to your choice of topic!
