Magazine Ad Essay Ap Language

This two-page VO5 ad appeared in the December 2007 issue of Elle. The first page shows a neatly dressed guy and girl glancing at each other with seductive smirks in an open elevator on floor one who are clearly attracted to one another. The guy and girl are dressed in casual clothes with the girl wearing a floral-patterned shirt with shades of red, orange, and green, while the guy is wearing a green buttoned up shirt. At the bottom of the page is a tag line that reads, " Bring out your sexy in just one application." written in a white font with an orange background. Beside the tag line is a picture of the VO5 hair products.

The second page shows the two, disheveled headed people with messed up clothes on floor ten with three people waiting to get on the elevator dressed in black, business apparel. The girl is biting her lip and looking up as if she was thinking about what just happened while the guy has a huge grin on his face. The girl's purse is on the floor with her make up spilt everywhere and her shoes are also unbuckled. The guy's boots are unlaced and his button up shirt is completely undone. In the middle of the page is a warning label that states "Product may require reapplication after vigorous activities." which is also written in white with an orange background. The bottom of the ad contains the tag line "Break the Mold" written in white and also displays the product name "Extreme Style by VO5".

Elle is a worldwide lifestyle magazine that focuses on health, fashion, beauty, and entertainment. According to Critical Approach, Elle's majority audience is women between the ages of 18-49 with a median of 34 years. Forty percent of Elle's target audience is single with an average household income of $70,000. The audience will likely choose to use the product because the ad suggests that in order for men to find women attractive, she must look beautiful and have perfectly done hair.
