Marrakech Essay
8,31,14,16,86,75,67,74, yes these 8 numbers may change my life forever. I spent my last 20$ on this Keno ticket hoping that my dream will come true. My light bill is 3 months overdue and haven’t had water for about a month now, and to make my life sound a little better me and my wife are in the middle of a divorce. Ever since Elementary school I have found myself betting on just about anything, rock paper scissors, wall ball, shit I even bet on who would guess the color of the next car that drove by. Of course none of my 8 numbers hit the board so I was stuck there like usual in shock but not really since I kind of knew already that my numbers weren’t going to hit. Also to top it off my part time job at the Dollar Tree was cutting down hours so from getting a solid 25 hours a week I was now getting about 16.
I would have my 216$ check last me a whole 2 days, with my wife bitching and moaning everyday about how I need to use the money for bills and not go off with it to the Casino. Yes, she was right but I couldn’t help myself I just felt great for those 10 minutes I sat in front of a slot machine or at a black jack table. It was a drug it seemed like, it would make me feel like I was on top of the world for a little and also made my wallet empty and there I was back at square one, no money, a pissed off wife and overdue bills. A letter came in the mail the other day It was the insurance company letting my car is no longer insured through them due to not paying the bill. Nothing in my life at this point was going right, if I had 5$ I was spending 10$ that’s just the way I am. The divorce was going to be finalized within the next 3 days and my ex-wife is keeping the house so I had to find a new place to stay.
1247 nw Jurk ave, the address to my new home. The “Juanitas” inn is where I was staying, a local motel they called it where you had a twin sized bed with sheets that haven’t been washed in weeks and a shower where if you barely bumped the shower head it would fall off. The only thing that had me staying there was the 18$ a night. A buddy of mine told me about this poker tournament that was going to happen on January 2nd, it is a 100$ buy in with over 200 people playing first place would win 17,000$. I knew this was my first opportunity to change my shit show of a life I was living. The day was getting closer and every quarter I found I kept and saved it. The motel was about ready to kick me out for not paying them for about 3 weeks’ now and I was just worried about this poker tournament. The 2nd was a Saturday and I called in work and told them I wasn’t coming in and they told me don’t bother showing up at all. I show up to the poker tournament get my 100$ worth of chips and sit down at the table. I remember this clearly till this day, my first had I was dealt pockets kings, the flop hit and so did a king. The guy was playing head to head with moved all in I instantly called and he turned over a flush. I was devastated I just wasted my last 100$ in the blink of an eye.
