Networking statement: do not only netwotk with the people you need.
The authors mention in the text that it is important to make networks not only with the people from your directly surroundings. It means that you also need to meet and to learn people from different professions and with different backgrounds.
During my last employment in Frankfurt I was working for an Auditing company in the tax field. In my job it was honored if somebody would bring new insights in your daily work. It could lower the routine time for doing special tasks. The peers working for a longer period in my department usually do not create a lot of new ideas because everything for them appears "normal".
Part of my work was completing tax returns for expatriates. It was long procedure afterword with review of each return from different managers. At the end you often did not know who of the managers reviewed which part (they used pans) and you lost time pointing it out. After having worked in this department for a while I considered as a good idea to use different colors for different steps of review process. It saved time for associates and did not cause any additional time for managers. This system was successfully implemented.
I think that I was able to suggest this kind of change because many of my friends are marketing or sales people with creative ideas. Spending time with them and just discussing about various topics often helps me for the "out of box thinking" you normally get used to in your routine job. Communicating and spending time with these friends also helped us to develop some business ideas that we would be never able to create without each other.
