Have you ever made a huge decision that could potentially change your life? Well in the memoir, Bossy Pants, by Tina Fey, she made a very important decision for her career. Tina Fey’s memoir was about how she became who she is and her start to her career. Fey created the hit show, 30 Rock and it was her decision on how far it went, which potentially changed her life.
In 2006, Tina Fey created a show called 30 Rock, which premiered on NBC. Other than writing for Saturday Night Live, this show was her biggest success. NBC wanted Tina to do a development deal to come up with another sitcom. The NBC President of Development, Kevin Reilly, suggested that Fey wrote something else that is closer and more relevant to her life. She did what Reilly requested, and that was the start of the hit television series, 30 Rock. Like all shows, 30 Rock wasn’t off to a great start. The CEO’s of NBC did not think that the show would make it very far thus they did not sign up for any more shows after the first one. They saw the rest of Fey’s writing and then changed their minds about the show. This series turned out to be a great hit and was watched by viewers all over the country. “That night’s show was watched by ten million people, so I guess that director at The Second City who said the audience ‘didn’t want to see a sketch with two women’ can go shit in his hat” (217). 30 Rock was a great decision by Fey that was an overall huge success for not only the show itself, but for Tina Fey as well.
The NBC hit, was the best career-based decision Fey has ever made. The series gave the comedian many opportunities as a writer and an actress. After the 30 Rock evolved, Fey wrote the movie Mean Girls. Not only, did she write the comedy, but she also played as one of the main characters, Mrs. Norbury.
