Accounting Case

This is to welcome you in advance to your Accounting in Business workshop in the near future, where either I or one of my colleagues are looking forward to meeting you. As I know you will have been kept busy up to now with the main Study Guide and textbook, as well as completing your assignment, there is no specific pre-workshop reading other than to familiarise yourself with the two case studies (Wilkerson and Borealis) that are available on Blackboard, and to bring a copy of each with you to the workshop (in either electronic or hard copy format). However there are a couple of points which, whilst not compulsory, you might want to give some thought to before it starts (these were both mentioned in the Introduction section of the study Guide but are worth a reminder here).

Firstly, you may find it interesting to bring with you a copy of your own company's most recent annual report to be able to refer to it where relevant during the workshop, and perhaps also any relevant internal management accounting reports too (subject to any limits of commercial confidentiality of course).

Secondly, the workshop assignment will be to work in groups to develop and deliver a presentation on a practical management accounting topic in the context of a specific company. The choice of company is up to each group, within various parameters (which I have pasted below for reference). You may want to start giving some thought and perhaps doing some initial rough research into possible companies that you think might be interesting and could be worth suggesting to your group

And last but not least, please bring with you to the workshop any questions you may have about what you have covered in the module so far.
