Race and Liberalism
This paper will focus on the reason behind the riots that happened in England which has been considered the worst in a couple of generations. The will analyze particularly on the debates that happened in the streets when people were trying to analyze and listen to each others opinions to decide whether they had the same feeling. The paper will mainly focus on the main reason; racism and liberalism as perceived by the residents.
The riots started in Tottenham city when a youth Mark Duggan was killed by police 2 days ago with rumors that he was assassinated. The resident wanted justice and demonstrated to their local police, demanding for justice Reading the riots (2011). The wanted to hear a word from the senior officer but he never turned up, the friends and family of Mark were very angry with that and as they lost their patience they burned a police car. The people started the violence as a way to seek justice for Mark but this was a reflection of the backlog of problem that was prevailing in England. The police had been mistreating the resident because most of the 73% of the people who participated on the riot had been stopped and searched by the same police in the last year UK Riots Debate (2011). This can only explain that resident were tired on how the government was acting on the prevailing issues.
From the police issue we realize that the young people are upset by the police misconception that every crime can only be done by the young people. The young people have not been given the opportunity to express their thoughts and potential by their parents. Most of the youth who participated in the riots claim that it was an opportunity because the police had earlier never shown mercy to them by collaborating with the government to deny the young people the opportunity to have education and they opt to sell drugs only to be prosecuted by the police for illegal activities UK Riots Debate (2011). More to this the residents consider the police handling as rude, impolite and disrespectful to the suspects and the public. According to the debates on the streets the biggest issues lies in the opinions of the residents. For the black they perceive this issue as racism, while some of the whites believe it is liberalism UK Riots Debate (2011).
