Question 2:

"Describe the differences between the functionally based and process-based organisation. How do these differences affect how the organisation operates"

In process perspective, different activities need different skills in the process, this process may involve the number and department (Viio, 2014). Taking customer sales process as example, it will involve multiple departments, sales, distribution, and the financial sector, including people in these departments (Consins, J. 2002).

In term of functional perspective, it refers to the organizational practice, pay attention to hierarchical reports, define and specify the role assigned to employees (Considine B, 2012).

In each case, the companies optimize their activities, functional unit and each process. The main difference is that the optimization of a functional unit may hurt another function, but across the organization business process optimization can help the entire company.On the other hand, a process view needs to change the view of the organization from "What is done?" to "How it's done?"(Considine B, 2012).

Organization operates shows the graphical representation of the combination of separate actions to reach the goal. In the flow chart, it shows a functional perspective,is a good defined of the characters, and the quality of each department (Consins, J. 2002). Instead of reporting to senior management, process chart shows all the function of the employees which are not independent. They interact with each other to meet consumer demand (Viio, 2014).

This means that the organization transformation idea is concentrated in a single function point of how to combine all sorts of function operation, to meet consumer demand. When different industry or skills is needed for an activity, the process will involve a group of people from a different department (Consins, J. 2002). When a sales staff found that customers are interested in buying their products, they will direct contact with the staff in the allocation and financial department to corresponding the customer order.
