Albertsons works on employees attitudes

  1. Johnston believes that the 3 day course is meant to change employee’s attitude that as a result of motivation, will change employee’s habits and company’s profitability in a better way. Being motivated and confident is what company needs from employees to reach higher goals and higher profits.

Starting the course at 6am is intended to have employees fresh and open-minded and ready to learn, also to make them feel healthier lifestyle. It begins with inspirational handouts to make employees feel positive from the beginning of the day. After awaking the mind they are doing the same to body during 12 minute yoga-like stretching that is followed by marching up a hill chanting “I know I can”, it makes them feel more confident and positive, think that they can do even more than they realized before. Next step is to help participants manage their life in a better way, lectures about attitude, diet and exercise are meant for that purpose. Attitude is a main topic as having positive attitude at work and in life are connected and depend on each other. Employees must realize that their job in the company is important and their involvement is the indicator for success of the company as a whole. Last part of the course is meant to strengthen relationship between employees and feel them as one team. Good relations and friendly environment can improve the efficiency.

As a result the company will have employees that think different about healthy life, feel more comfortable in a friendly environment, me motivated and feel self-confident that they can do more for the company.

  1. I agree with the statement that positive attitude can change business. Positive attitude makes employees do right things in a positive way; positive thinking results in a motivation; better relationship with colleagues means better teamwork; motivation results in a more effective work. Attitude makes feel as a team player, part of company where he is free for new ideas, new opportunities. Otherwise we get demotivated staff who treats the job as just doing tasks listed in his job description and nothing more.
  2. First of all the effectiveness of the investment will be measured in profit after all the staff have passed the course, but it need some period until the whole program is finished and it makes effect. Another measure will be employee surveys before and after the course, this will indicate a clear trend in employee motivation and change in attitude, if there is a pre-course survey available to compare with, it will be a better way to evaluate the effect. As the company has 1.4 bln visitors during the year, customer surveys will be also very important to see changes in customer satisfaction. Change in customer visits during the year will be also a good indicator. To avoid biased surveys, they must be strictly confidential.
  3. I would appreciate the opportunity to go through the course because of several reasons: the course is not directly related to job and skills that are used in work; the course would be a good opportunity to meet colleagues in a different environment and set up different relationships with them, which will help in a day-to-day relationships during working hours; knowing more about healthy lifestyle would be a good benefit that will result in better lifestyle; the course would not benefit only the company but me as an employee; it is always better to work in an environment of friendly team, such courses do a big job in formation of team spirit in the company; the course would make me feel more confident and motivated.
