- OBSERVATION:
Mr. Andy Mallari really has a passion for his business. He started with a small one and eventually when given the chance, he didn’t hesitate to expand it. Having a small business means you get to be the owner and at the same time a worker as well. He has excellent skills in managing his business. When he was able to purchase a 300-square meter lot, he constructed a two-storey building making the ground floor as his store and the second floor as his residence which I observe is a good strategy. Living near to his own business makes it easier for him to keep an eye on it and to response immediately whenever a problem occurs.
After some time, he earns enough money again to enlarge his business. I observed that his decisions were made very carefully. Instead of just picking random locations to duplicate his feat, he chose big towns like San Jose City, Gapan and Guimba. The larger the business, the more workforce is needed that is why he hired five salesladies to accommodate his customers.
He is so passionate about business that when he heard of Mr. Chan’s story about the well-established appliance assembly plant in Manila, he thought of following his footsteps. As part of his strategy in achieving his dream, he sought help from his three sons by deciding what course should they take.
- PROBLEM:
What are the right college courses for his children and in what university or college will he enroll them?
- HYPOTHESIS:
Mr. Andy Mallari should choose Electronics and Communications Engineering to be the course for his first son, since electronic industry is what his business is all about. It would be wise if his son who, if ever, will be an electronic engineer be positioned as a supervisor. The second son is to take business administration then he will be in charge of the management aspects within the business. And the third one is to take finance, and he will oversee the financial aspects of the business.
Mr. Mallari should review schools that excel in courses that he chose for his sons. Considering that his first son would take an engineering course, he should enroll him in a premier state university with recognized excellence in engineering but is not too expensive. A school that has a consistent record of being on top of board exam results and at the same time, has affordable fees.
- EXPERIMENT OR TESTING OF HYPOTHESIS:
To test whether the courses and schools chosen were right, he can interview alumni from universities he chose for his sons and ask them their thoughts about the assembly plant he wants to start. Before enrolling his son, he should first research about the school’s performance and system. Since his son belongs to the top ten of the class, he should not limit his son to take an entrance exam in only one university, instead he should let him explore and take as much as many entrance exams as he can. Students who belong in top ten were given benefits like free entrance exams. So that if he passes all of it, all he has to do is to choose what university/college is best for him.
