LS 135 - X Angelo’s Pizza Case
- What are three specific human resource management implications of my strategy (including specific policies and practices)?
The three specific HRM implications of Angelo’s Strategy would include three things: mainly the Business Plan, the Competitive Strategy, and the Job Analysis.
The first HRM implication to Angelo’s Strategy, the Business Plan, would involve him needing a strategic plan. Through this strategic plan, he would be able to outline his strategic goals, and help him determine which of his employees he would need to develop. Business in general would want to attract new customers and maintain their current customer base, and wit his past experience with attempted rushed hiring, he might actually achieve his goal. He has to develop a plan that will identify what kind of employees he wants, and the skills that he wants from the accepted applicants to have, especially the ones who have the potential to grow. This would definitely help him when he plans to expand his business into a number of stores (and eventually a franchise).
Once he has a list of requirements for the kind of people he wants to work for him, he needs a Comprehensive Strategy to hire them. He needs to develop a screening process for the applications, including: Guidelines, Reference Checking, Extensive Interviews, and Future Skill Assessments for the skills that the open jobs require in order to maintain quality staff. Besides this, he would want to make background checks for the people that applied in his business so that he would avoid theft and other problems. All of these recommendations are due to the fact that it can be seen that his company has a high turnover rate, and might turn off some applicants with potential. He would need to get employees who are skilled to work harder and stay in the company in order to keep his business afloat.
Lastly, he should do a Job Analysis, which will in turn help him develop human resource strategies that will ensure his recruited people’s success. He would need specific kinds of training programs that are tailor fit to specific jobs, and general training that are recognised so that each employee understands what is expected from them. He would need to devote time into this, especially since he puts his business’s reputation in a worse light by allowing unskilled people to operate in his stores. Compensation and benefits like a pay raise and/or vacation time would be a great idea to motivate them to work harder, and so that they are well informed that their hard work can lead into a promotion, etc.
