Borrowing money from a friend can strain even the strongest relationship. Woody robinson and al hunt were sitting side by side at a blackjack table in Tunica, Missisipi. The two longtime friends and their wives were spending their summer vacation together as they had several times. After three days of loitering in the casinos, woody owed al nearly $5,000.
Woody and al were best friends since elementary school in huntington. Following graduation, al went work for curcio’s auto supply, a business owned by his father in law. Curcio’s sold lawn mowers, bicycles, and automotive parts and supplies, including tires and batteries, the business’s two largest revenue producers. Al helped woody land a job with goodner brothers, inc., a large tire wholesaler that was curcio’s largest supplier. Goodner brothers hired woody to work as sales representative for its huntington location. He was a successful salesman. However, his bad habit of gambling made him desperate with his financial condition. Even, two bookies intimidated him to touch his wife, rachelle.
Finally, woody was too desperate to find a good way, so he decided to begin stealing from his employer, goodner brothers. He decided to steal from his employer because he was familiar with the company’s slack accounting practices and unproper control over its inventory and other assets. Goodner’s ambitious sales goals made its profit margin averaged below 6.7% compare to other tire wholesalers. To compensate it, goodner cut the operating expenses, including expenditures on internal control measures. Instead of an extensive system of internal controls, goodner relied heavily on the honesty and integrity of the employees they hired. Besides, during heavy sales periods, sales reps often loaded and delivered customer orders themselves.
