The aim of the project is to successfully organise and plan an expedition supported by the local county and sponsored by a major petrochemical company that is looking to increase its popularity. The expedition will involve 50 students travelling to 6 various countries/locations close to or within the spine spine of the Americas and will span over six years ending with a final trip to Antarctica. The students will be escorted by 10 trained leaders who will carry out planned itineraries with them.
Summary of Proposed Project Approach
The students will be split into 5 groups of 10 each and each group will have two leaders. The students will be selected from within the county in a lottery style(randomly) at the ages of 12-13. The groups will all be assigned a different country/location to visit from the following:
o Canada
o United States of America
o Mexico
o Galapagos Islands
o Peru
The visits will initially take place during their school summer holidays and every year the groups will rotate to a different country so by the 5th summer all 5 groups would have covered the 5 countries/locations above. The last visit will be to Antarctica and will take place in the 6th year during their Christmas holidays (due to weather conditions). It will involve all 50 students together by which time they would have reached the ages of 17-18.
Project Objectives
The objective is to conduct a successful global expedition that will provide children with the opportunity of a lifetime and the chance to learn new languages, experience various cultures and go on fun activities such as zip lining etc. The expedition aims at traversing through countries such as Canada, USA, Mexico, Galapagos Island, Peru and Antarctica.
The expedition will also help increase the popularity of the petrochemical company and the local county. It will do this via the long term exposure of this long term sponsored project. Prince2 Methodology will be used to project manage this project through its entire life-cycle.
