Canada’s Team of the Century: 1972 Summit Series

Introduction:
This series was the first competition between the Soviet national team and a Canadian team of professional NHL players. The first four games were held in Canada and the final four were held in Moscow. The series was played during the cold war, it aroused intense feeling of nationalism in both countries. The Canadian won last three final games in Moscow to win the series. They make their team strong by knowing each other’s skills and abilities to won the game.
Team Canada’s development in each of the five phases of the team’s life cycle:
During the forming stage a team discuss its purpose, assign task to the members and also they began to from personal relationships between them. Then they make a strategy to achieve their goals in storming stage. In norming stage they established their values. Furthermore, performing stage is the team development when they have productive relationship among them and are able to coordinate effectively and efficiently. During adjourning stage they did hard work and make good relationships among them to won the game.
Self-managed team:
The Canadians started to develop mindset, recognizing which of their skills they could develop to make the whole team stronger, and how they could best serve the team and accomplish the collective goal. Each player was prepared to do whatever was required. The team developed in other ways. For example they adapted their playing style in order to neutralize the Soviet’s strength. They distribute the work to each member as the leader, Harry left ‘on-the-ice’. He will figure out how to complement each other, to get the job done.
