Introduction
Human resources is a division of almost every organization. It is a constant function that deals with the “people” resource of an organization. Its aim is to develop these resources through various methods. The primary functions of Human Resources Management are staffing, training, motivation and maintenance. This paper serves to provide the reader with an overview of Human Resources Management and its primary roles and how they align with strategic Planning.
Overview of Human Resources Management
Human Resources Management (HRM), was once thought of as just the hiring and firing of employees. Today however, it has taken on a much broader meaning. The hiring aspect of HRM is critical. Choosing employees for any organization can contribute to its success or detriment. HRM is responsible for choosing employees that align with the company’s strategic plans. Before considering a potential employee, HRM has to be educated on what the strategic plans are so that if job creation is needed, Management is fully educated about the job specifications are in order to select the right candidate. This is very important to carry out the other functions of HRM as well. As change is constant, HRM has no choice but to make adjustments to its role within organizations.
Changes in the external factors pertaning to HRM have brought many challenges along with the progress. An example of this is the presence of ever-changing technology. In order for their organizations to remain relevant and competitive they must keep up with new trends, HRM has to be educated and current with new technologies. Ever important are the changing laws that have HRM has to constantly be aware of in order to protect their employees and make sure that they are not in violation.
The training function in HRM involves making sure that the empolyee is adequately prepared to perform their job
