Shifts in the health care system can always improve the employee’s health. Different health care organization always employs different wellness plans depending on their financial status, geographical location, goods and services produced as well as their culture. A wellness program consists of a number of company sponsored activities that works together to promote the health status of their workers. Examples of such activities include company sponsored educational seminars on health, weight loss competitions, programs aimed at discouraging tobacco smoking, health screening aimed at diagnosing diseases among for early treatment, offering financial incentives such as health insurance cover (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2015).
Wellness program can produce a number of benefits to the healthcare organization as well as the employees some of the benefits to the healthcare organization includes: Fewer cases of absenteeism among employees (Cook et al., 2015). It is natural knowledge that when a person is sick his/her body weakens and as a result he/she can no longer work effectively and the only solution is to get a seek leaf and recover first before coming back to work. This affects productivity of a company and if many seek cases are reported then the company would incur much loses due to reduced productivity. A company with a well-established and implemented wellness program such as regular exercise, good diet, and regular organization of health seminars among others tend to have lesser absenteeism cases, as all these programs works to always improve the health of the employees them by resulting to fewer to no cases of disease outbreaks.
Improvement of job productivity, a health care organization where employees are most fit and healthy incur higher productivity, healthy workers tends to be more productive than others, these workers do not only functions better at work but in case they get injured there healing process is faster as their bodies are strong therefore saving their employer from having to higher other people to make up for the weaker ones instead putting that money in other uses that will increase the company’s production (Cook et al., 2015).
Reduced health insurance cost: with robust wellness program, employee’s health will improve, therefore the company will have reduced cost of health insurance as well as worker’s compensation insurance (Cook et al., 2015).
Workplace wellness program can help employees leave healthier and more fulfilling lives. By teaching and involving employees in activities that help them lose weight, lower their cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure levels as well as how to manage stress, sleep better and exercise more, these people will get enormous health benefits that will save them from spending a lot of money in treatment of diseases that can be avoided altogether. The money can then be put in another use (Radler et al., 2015). Workplace wellness also creates a bond among employees as they spend time together doing other things that are not related to work thus as they encourage one another during sports, support each other in weight loss exercises and take lunch together they develop a sense of oneness which is very healthy to the organization.
